Artificial sand: Sustainable solution for the modern construction industry
Artificial sand is a type of sand produced from raw materials such as stone, gravel, or even recycled construction materials. It is used to replace natural sand which is increasingly scarce. VSI sand making machine
With the continuous development of the construction industry, the demand for sand is increasing. This leads to environmental problems due to the exploitation of natural sand. Therefore, artificial sand has become a sustainable and effective solution to address these challenges.

Artificial sand What is sand? What is sand? There are many terms about sand: filling sand, black sand, yellow sand, concrete sand, construction sand, plastering sand... However, according to different classifications, we can clearly understand these terms.
1. Classification of construction sand
Construction sand is classified based on its particle size and properties. Common types of sand in construction include:
- Yellow sand: A type of sand with large grain size, often used to mix concrete, ensuring adhesion and durability for construction works.
- Black sand: Has a smaller grain size than yellow sand, often used in finishing works such as plastering and flooring.
- White sand: Fine sand, often used in glass and ceramic production and some jobs requiring high purity.
- Artificial sand: Made from crushed stone or recycled materials, particle size and shape can be adjusted according to usage requirements.
What types of construction sand are there?
Construction sand can be classified into many types based on intended use, the most common of which are:
- Concrete sand: Large grain size, clean, free of impurities, suitable for mixing concrete.
- Construction sand: Usually has medium grain size, used for building walls and plastering.
- Sand for leveling: Has uneven grain size, often used for leveling ground and making roadbed.
What is the sand module?
Sand module is an important indicator in construction. It is used to evaluate the fineness and classify the grain size of sand. It is determined through screening sand through standard sieves and calculating the percentage of particles remaining on each sieve. The sand module helps determine the properties of sand. From there, decide on the appropriate type of sand for each specific use.
International concept
Natural sand is a loose granular material that results from the breakdown of rocks. It consists of particles finer than gravel but coarser than mud.
According to the international calculation method (ISO 14688-1: 2002), sand has the following dimensions:
- Coarse sand is 0.63–2.0 mm in size
- Average sand is 0.2–0.63 mm in size
- Fine sand has a size of 0.063–0.2 mm

According to Vietnamese standard TCVN 7570
Natural sand – A mixture of small aggregate particles formed by the weathering process of natural rocks. Natural sand is hereinafter referred to as sand. Artificial sand (Or what is crushed sand) – A mixture of aggregate particles smaller than 5 mm in size obtained by crushing and or grinding from rock.
Magnitude module of sand
Nominal index to assess the coarseness or fineness of sand grains. Modulus of magnitude of sand is determined by adding the percent of the accumulated residue on the 2.5 mm; 1.25 mm; 0.630 mm; 0.315 mm; 0.140 mm sieves and divide by 100.
